Chilli oil, without the seed oil.
Almost every chilli oil on the shelf is built on canola or soybean oil. This one is extra virgin olive oil, spring onion, garlic, shiitake and toasted sesame — and it is half crunch.

What to do with a jar
We didn't make this one — and that's the point
We render our own tallow and lard because we think the fat you cook in matters. That belief doesn't stop at our own products. When we went looking for a chilli oil worth putting next to them, nearly everything on the market was built on canola or soybean oil.
Soka Pantry handcraft theirs in Sydney on extra virgin olive oil, with real ingredients you can pronounce — spring onion, garlic, shiitake, sesame, chilli. It's the only one we'd put on our own eggs, so it's the only one we'll sell you.

Which one should I start with?
Original if you want flavour with a warm hum behind it — it's the signature and the safest bet. Extra Hot if you're the person who adds chilli to everything; same base, an extra hit of Bird's Eye that builds slowly rather than slapping you. Hot Honey if you want sweet-and-spicy — it's a different animal, and it's the one that disappears fastest on fried chicken and pizza.
Is it really seed oil free?
Yes. The chilli oils are made on 100% extra virgin olive oil, and the Hot Honey on Australian raw honey and EVOO. No canola, no soybean, no sunflower, no 'vegetable oil'. That's unusual in this category — check the label on any other jar in your cupboard.
How hot is it, really?
Original sits around 5/10 — warming rather than punishing, and most people find it very manageable. Extra Hot is a 7/10 with Bird's Eye chilli; the heat builds over a few seconds rather than arriving all at once. Hot Honey leads with sweetness and finishes warm.
What's actually in it?
Extra virgin olive oil, spring onion, garlic, onion, shiitake mushroom, chilli flakes, paprika, onion and garlic powder, chilli powder, naturally brewed gluten-free soy sauce, nutritional yeast, coconut sugar and sesame seeds. The Hot Honey swaps in Australian raw honey and apple cider vinegar. Contains soy and sesame.
Is it vegan or gluten free?
The two chilli oils are vegan, and the soy sauce used is gluten free. The Hot Honey contains honey, so it isn't vegan.
Does it need refrigerating?
No. Keep it in the pantry with the lid on. The olive oil may firm up or cloud in cold weather — that's what real olive oil does, and it clears as it warms up.
Why is there so much crunch in the jar?
Because that's the whole idea. A spoonful is roughly half oil, half toasted bits — give it a good stir from the bottom before you use it, and don't be shy with the solids.
Do you make this yourselves?
No, and we won't pretend otherwise. Soka Pantry make it by hand in Sydney. We stock it because it's the only chilli oil we found that isn't built on seed oils, and it earns its place next to our tallow and lard.
How does shipping work?
Pantry/shelf-stable goods ship for $10 flat-rate nationally, and orders over $100 ship free. Australia Post with tracking, multiple dispatches per week. Afterpay accepted.
