Mrs W's recipe, made in small batches
This is the recipe Ann has been making since she was running her own kitchen. It's the one her family asks for at Christmas and the one Jake quietly hopes goes onto every cheese board. Nothing on the supermarket shelf comes close.
We make it in small batches, by hand. Vinegar, sugar, salt, spices — real ingredients, no thickeners, no preservatives, no shortcuts. The way your nan probably made hers, if she still made hers.

What does B&B mean? Are these spicy or sharp?
B&B stands for 'bread and butter' — the sweet-and-sour pickling style that goes especially well with bread, butter and cheese. Not sharp like a dill, not hot like a chilli pickle. Sweet first, tangy second, with a soft warmth from mustard and turmeric.
What's in it exactly?
Cucumbers, onions, apple cider vinegar, raw sugar, mustard and celery seeds, sea salt, turmeric. That's it. No preservatives, no thickeners, no colourings.
How long will it keep?
Sealed in the pantry, 12+ months. Once opened, keep it in the fridge and aim to finish within six weeks (it'll usually go faster than that).
Is it vegan / gluten-free?
Yes to both. Just plants, vinegar, sugar and spices.
What goes with it?
Almost anything savoury. Cheese boards, burgers, ploughman's lunches, corned beef, roast leftovers, even chopped through potato salad. We've yet to find a place it makes worse.
Why does the brine sometimes look a bit cloudy?
That's the natural starches from the cucumbers and the spices doing their thing. Some batches are clearer than others. It's not a fault — it's a small-batch thing.
Are these the same as what Cafe Musette serves?
Yep — same jars, same kitchen. If you've eaten at our cafe and asked 'what are these pickles?', this is what you were after.
Is there a bigger jar?
Just the 300ml at the moment. If demand keeps climbing, a bigger jar is on the cards.
How does shipping work?
Pantry/shelf-stable goods ship for $10 flat-rate nationally, and orders over $100 ship free. Australia Post with tracking, multiple dispatches per week. Afterpay accepted.
