Mrs W's recipe, made in small batches
Tomato relish is one of those things that's either properly made or properly disappointing. Ann's version is the kind that earns a permanent spot in the fridge: real tomatoes, slow-cooked down, vinegar and spices to lift it. The flavour you remember from your nan's kitchen.
We make it in small batches by hand — no preservatives, no thickeners, nothing on the label you don't know. The recipe is Mrs W's, and it hasn't needed updating.

Is it relish, chutney or sauce?
It's a relish/chutney — chunky, sweet-savoury, with visible tomato. Not a smooth tomato sauce out of a squeeze bottle. Think of it as what you'd put on a pie at the country show, not what you'd squirt on a hot dog.
What's in it exactly?
Tomatoes, onions, raw sugar, apple cider vinegar, mustard, sea salt and a few warming spices. That's the lot. No preservatives, no thickeners.
How long will it keep?
Sealed in the pantry, 12+ months. Once opened, fridge it and aim to use within six weeks. It usually disappears faster than that.
Is it vegan / gluten-free?
Yes to both. Just produce, vinegar, sugar and spices.
What goes best with it?
Pies and sausage rolls is the home run. Big breakfasts, cheese platters, cold cuts, BBQ glaze, lifted into a meatloaf mix. Anywhere a tomato base belongs and the bottled version isn't doing it justice.
Is it sweet?
Yes — sweet first, tangy second, savoury underneath. Not a spicy or sharp relish.
Where do the tomatoes come from?
Local tomatoes wherever possible — we use what's in season and what's growing well. Some batches will taste slightly different. That's small-batch reality.
Is there a bigger jar?
Just the 300ml at the moment. If the demand keeps climbing, a bigger jar is on the cards.
How does shipping work?
Pantry/shelf-stable goods ship for $10 flat-rate nationally, and orders over $100 ship free. Australia Post with tracking, multiple dispatches per week. Afterpay accepted.
