To jealously guard.

Driving in and out of town Otto has noticed the "fluffy stuff" and "dead bones" in peoples yards. Halloween decorations

He is trying to figure it out. It's obviously a *thing*, but not a very big thing - as not everyone is involved. (Compared to Christmas lights, etc)

I consider it my prerogative and duty to jealously guard and curate my families environment. Putting effort into celebrating witches, demons and death doesn't seem to be a good spend of our time and energy.

I appreciate that many consider Halloween as "harmless fun", and I'm certainly not here to give you a hard time about it or even necessarily challenge what you do.

But this page is Wolki Farm, and it's a viewing glass into Wolki World, so I'm going to throw in my 2c. Enter the discussion, scroll on, get offended. It's up to you.

Our time and energy is limited, and we aren't lacking in options on how to use it. I believe that there is a lot to be said for the subtle and implied messages across all aspects of culture.

Take TV. What do The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, Malcolm in the Middle, Bluey, King of the Hill, Bobs Burgers, Despicable Me and Modern Family all have in common?

Dad is a dumbass.

Sure, it's fun harmless entertainment. But if you're a TV frequenting family and a few of these programs are your regulars, what programming is your child soaking up? I don't believe that this alone breaks family structure and undermines a healthy family's function - but I don't believe that it's harmless.

Regardless as to whether witches, warlocks and demons are "real", are they really the types of things that we want to celebrate and engage with? I see people with demonic tattoos and I can't figure it out.

This isn't a personal attack against you, if you have one. I just can't reconcile while you would want a symbol of evil, malevolence, and chaos on your body.

(I don't have any tattoos, but if I was to get some I'd probably pick my favourite bull and put it on my forearm, Sailor Jerry style. Don't worry - I wont!)

One day, my children (going on 4) will scroll back through my social media ramblings. I often wonder how they will perceive it.

"Dad was based"

"Dad was such a cooker"

"We weren't allowed to do anything"

"I'm glad dad thought and acted hard for our family"

Trick or Treat and have fun, I guess.

The Wolki's will be collecting eggs, moving cows, feeding pigs, having family dinner with home grown ingredients and reading The Famous Five as a family before we hit the sack.

Maybe - if we are lucky - we will get some of Mr's Wolki's home made ice cream! TREAT
