The upcoming Social Media Ban is looming on a tangible time horizon and its impact on society will quickly go from predictions to reality.
Yesterday I spent most of the day on the road. We all love our University of Wheels in 2025, don’t we? Podcasts, phone calls and thoughts.
I listened to a few clips talking about the upcoming “Social Media Ban”, the policy specifically trying to prevent Australia’s Under 16’s from accessing social media like Facebook, Instagram & even YouTube.
(Because the Government knows best, yes?)
But it won’t stop there. Is this a conspiratorial comment? It’s logical.
To IDENTIFY that you are under 16 you have to IDENTIFY yourself. Why does this matter?
“Jake, your whole life is on the internet?”. Yes, being public is a decision that we have made.
It’s one thing when being identified online is your choice, another when it’s the Governments.
PS: I wonder if this little Blog will get me on the E-Karens list of naughty boys? I wonder if I’m already there because I saw stuff like cows aren’t bad for the environment and money printing is stupid. (Click HERE if you don’t know what I’m referring to)
What does this have to do with farming?
Wolki Farm is a business. To compete in today's marketplace we have to use whatever edge we have, and a big one is our ability to communicate directly with our community and build relationships. We don’t have a big marketing budget, sophisticated supply chains and margin to throw at fancy branding.
(Our Logo was designed by me writing “WOLKI FARM” on some paper. Then, I underlined it for effect. Then I overlined it for MORE effect. I feel it’s very “Wolki”!)
So once again, I am thinking of potential ramifications that Government policy will once again have on my business and my families ability to eat & heat.
There's no doubt that our Wolki Farm community is unique, filled with “innovators” and “early adopter” consumers in the food movement.
Will people simply log off-line when the “Social Media Ban” deadline rolls around?
Let’s be honest, most won’t. But some will. I’m willing to bet that due to the nature of our following, we will have more than your average % of followers fall away.
Being genetically hardwired to default to optimism and enthusiasm settings, I’m trying to think forward and see the fallout, so that we can predict and pivot.
The point of this blog isn’t to explore the obvious continuous overreach of our Government in our lives, but to open a discussion about how this may affect communication, especially social media for small businesses.
Is the Government currently creating the conditions for email lists, private forums and blogs to dominate, with interaction, communication and anonymity more secure on those forums?
Are YOU staying online when you have to upload your ID and provide facial recognition to log on?
I certainly wont be providing digital ID for ANY platform. You know its not about protecting kids, but getting our ID to control us even more . I think kids are far smarter than us with technology and could easily bypass the age verification hurdle. I believe kids can still access porn sites (2 they mention) , so its not really about their protection. Its not just the social media, but You Tube, Rumble, Substack and others that the awake community use to keep informed. I guess I will finally be able to read emails in a more timely fashion and also some of the books I purchased in the last 4 years that I havent had time to read yet…. so there are some positives!!! I think there might also be a non smart phone just around the corner too……
Hi Jake, I hear you and definetly agree with everything you said, one thing that covid taught us is to have faith to be able to find a way around things but only time will tell I suppose. I do pray that we can figure out a way to still use some kind of an online method and still keep our privacy as we are all used to doing things online now it will be so hard not being able to if we needed to make that choice. Personally I will NOT stay online if it means losing what is left of my privacy, so for now I will try to stay positive and wish us all a whole heap of luck :)
I won’t be providing digital id or facial recognition. Guess that will force me to be off-line.
They say it’s to protect kids from pedos. That’s the same as ancestory collecting DNA for you family history. Both are so governments can collect more data on where you go and what you do.
I won’t consent to dig ID and will jump off fb etc., sadly, as there are good points to it. I am certain that a solution will be created by someone better at tech than me.
If I can’t get around digital id, then I will migrate to platforms like Nostr. If that proves impossible then I won’t be on social media.
I have put a few posts up regarding this. It’s the first step on a long slippery slope, and a short step for full control of the populace. It’s either 1934 or 1984 depending on your take! I have told a few I know to open up more accounts, then give the sign on’s and passwords to their under 16’s. THAT should screw the Governments master plan!
It will depend on what they want for ID. If lve had a Google account for more then 15 yrs which most people do that should be adequate ID. If you need passport or facial ID or Digital ID l won’t be providing that.
I am totally awake to the big picture and being 60 retired, I will not get digital ID. I’ll do everything I can to not do it, but I can foresee this is just the beginning of more control and compliance. So yes I’ll be leaving social media. But having said that I’ll be happy to receive emails and continue to purchase that way. My son is in small business and he feels exactly like you, I just wish more Aussie’s saw it too. We are in for tough times, best wishes Wolki
We will not be complying with a digital ID, and will go offlone. Any awake person can see the writing on the wall and where this is heading.
Hi Jake, I personally have avoided the facial recognition for the reasons of the Governmental control and theft of Identity. This push through Social media I feel is definitely going to hasten both areas of my concern. End result Total Governmental control. However we are also very concerned as to the impacts to our online media access for the business.
Hi Jake, I have already made the switch. Smart phone stays in the glove box, awaiting hotspot. Dumb phone goes in the pocket. Not sure if there’s other people like me out there, but I’m sure you could contact me via sms. P.s. Maybe I’ll try to use a VPN if I ever would like some instant gratification or want to buy something I dont need, lol
Love that you are so aware and open to discussion! I for one will not be uploading anything for govt – they have enough details already AND I can parent my own kids thank you very much! We know where this is all heading….the UK have digital ID breathing down their necks at this minute. We should be in the same uproar about this! Back off govt!!
NEVER will I sign up to digital ID, give facial scans, fingerprints, retina scans. NEVER! Australia is on the brink of becoming a communist country….. hence all the surveillance, digital ID, giving away our assets to China, the whole climate scam, and other recent scamdemics. All we need to do is stand together and say NO! But with the help of lamestream media, and the indoctrination and mind control tactics provided by the media, the vast majority are totally oblivious to what is happening (controlled demolition) and we slip further into a third world country. Wait till the other sleeping people realise what comes into play on 19 September….. our next plandemic is not far away! Im sure I dont need to go on…. you know all this already Jake. See you tomorrow!
