GRASS FED AND FINISHED BEEF
THE GRASS REALLY IS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE
- JUST ASK OUR MOB -
Grass fed and finished beef are integral to our regenerative farming system here at Wolki Farm. These beautiful herbivores are the backbone of our ecosystem, pruning our pastures, helping us sequester carbon, and build bountiful soil. We source beef breeds from local farmers (including Nguni cattle) on The Border and raise them with love and compassion. We never feed our cows grain, don’t drench, and don’t use antibiotics – when cattle move to fresh pasture daily, you simply don’t need to.
QUESTION FOR YOU…
Picture this: you’re standing at the supermarket, staring at all the perfectly packaged, pretty-named meat portions. But then, curiosity interrupts your purchasing decision…where has this meat actually come from? What was it fed? What chemicals did it consume? How was it treated? What carbon footprint did it leave? What (if any) nutritional value does it offer?
If you can’t answer these questions, you should reconsider your purchasing decision. Step. Away. From. The. Grocery. Aisle.
FEED YOUR FAMILY THE BEST, WITHOUT COSTING THE EARTH
Here’s the truth: Wolki Farm meat is traceable, local, and ‘expensive’. We’re proud of that. Yes, it costs more fiscally, but not all costs are rounded up at the tills. Unfortunately, the big guys subsidise the cost of meat with welfare, environmental impact, and quality. We’ll never follow suit.
However, we know budget is a massive factor to consider when feeding families, so we offer a convenient option to stock the freezer with premium grass fed and finished beef, while saving money at the same time; buy in bulk. We sell our beef in bulk, meaning you get 25% of the entire beast (forequarter and hindquarter cuts).
Buying your protein this way offers many benefits, including:
- Food security: have a year’s worth of meat in the freezer
- Origin: know exactly where your meat comes from
- No nasties: no chemicals, additives, or fillers
- Nose-to-tail: respecting the animal by eating all the cuts
- Convenient: portion controlled, labelled, cryovaced, and frozen
- Value: you save over 20% off retail price per cut
MEAT MYTH BUSTERS
Cattle are bad for our environment—they over-graze, compact our soils, and their bad manners (burping) are slowly cooking us all, right? Wrong.
Cattle create healthy landscapes. Traditional farming systems do not.
Traditional farming methods mean cattle spend large amounts of time in a single paddock, continually grazing their favourite sections of the same pasture until it’s completely depleted and unable to regenerate without chemical/human interference. That’s, of course, if the cow’s lucky; mass production of beef dictates that millions of unfortunate cattle live in Australian feedlots, where they’re fed grain to speed up production times and optimise profits.
But here’s something the big guys don’t want you to know: it doesn’t have to be this way.
At Wolki Farm, we mimic the pattern laid out by nature. Biologically, cattle are migratory animals; their bodies are built to graze and digest grasslands. So, each day our cattle move onto a new salad bar of fresh green pasture. In return, they leave a paddock that they’ve mowed down, aerated, and fertilised—supercharging pasture growth. As the pasture regenerates, it takes in carbon from the air, pumping it back into the soil, feeding the microbiology. In return, this microbiology creates paddocks of thriving, nutrient-dense pasture that the cattle will return later to consume. It’s a cycle.
Cattle aren’t the problem; they’re the solution.
IT'S NOT THE COW. IT'S THE HOW.
MEAT MILES MATTER
In a perfect world, your hard-earned-food-dollar would acquire only the best-quality protein, support local small businesses, and positively impact your region, right? With Wolki Farm, it can.
You hold the vote for what happens in our food system, and you influence it with every food dollar you spend.
CREATING MEMORIES, ONE DELICIOUS MEAL AT A TIME
I don't know about yours, but my grandma's recipes always shared three key elements: love, wholesome ingredients, and a story (or three).
You'd never see my grandma starting her cook-up with a lack-lustre, mass-produced, pale-looking protein. Her meat always had character, texture, and flavour. She knew where her beef came from, how it was reared, and always had a tale or two (many) about the farmer who’d produced it. It's time we bring back grandma's tradition and serve some memories onto the tables of Australians.
